Daniel Knight (1842-4 October 1862) was a Confederate States Army private during the American Civil War. He was born in Jones County, Mississippi, the nephew of Newton Knight, and he was drafted into the army during the war. He deserted from his original unit to join his uncle's unit, and his uncle tried to protect him. However, Knight was shot below the chest by a Union sharpshooter as he prepared for a bayonet charge during the Second Battle of Corinth, and he died of his wounds minutes later. Daniel's death convinced his uncle to desert and bring his body home, ultimately leading to his rebellion against the Confederacy.
