Daniel Franklin Davis (12 September 1843-9 January 1897) was the Republican Governor of Maine from 17 January 1880 to 13 January 1881, succeeding Alonzo Garcelon and preceding Harris M. Plaisted.
Biography[]
Daniel Franklin Davis was born in Freedom, Maine in 1843, and he served in the 1st Maine Cavalry Regiment during the American Civil War. After the war, he became a lawyer in East Corinth and served in the State House from 1871 to 1875, in the State Senate from 1875 to 1879, as Governor from 1880 to 1881, and federal collector of customs for the port of Bangor from 1882 to 1886. He died in 1897.
