Dana Boente

Dana Boente (born 7 February 1954) was acting Attorney General of the United States from 30 January to 9 February 2017, succeeding Sally Yates and preceding Jeff Sessions. He later became General Counsel for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, assuming office 23 January 2018.

Biography[]

Dana Boente was born in Carlinville, Illinois in 1954, and he rose from being a law clerk to becoming an Assistant US Attorney in Virginia in 2001. In 2012, he was appointed by Attorney General Eric Holder to serve as US Attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana, holding this post until September 2013. He then served as US Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia from 2013 to January 2018, and President Donald Trump appointed him acting Attorney General on 30 January 2017. He served for just over a week, and he ordered US attorneys to adhere to Trump's travel ban on Muslims. From February to April, he then served as Acting Deputy Attorney General following Jeff Sessions' confirmation and preceding Rod Rosenstein's confirmation. In January 2018, he left his post as a US Attorney to become General Counsel of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
