Dale

Dale was, in J.R.R. Tolkien's interpretation of Norse mythology, a human kingdom in northeastern Middle Earth. Dale was built by the Northmen who migrated to King Thror's Dwarven kingdom in TA 2590 (4474 BC) and became the Lords of Dale, which became a merry and prosperous town with a world-famous toy market. In TA 2770 (4294 BC), the dragon Smaug destroyed Dale, but, three years after Smaug's death and the Battle of Five Armies, in TA 2944 (4120 BC), Bard the Bowman (the slayer of Smaug) rebuilt Dale and became its ruler. During the War of the Ring, the Easterlings of Rhun invaded Dale in TA 3019 (4046 BC), killing King Brand of Dale and King Dain Ironfoot; the Men and Dwarves held out in Erebor until Sauron's defeat in the south, after which the Easterlings were chased out of Dale. Dale remained an independent kingdom, although it retained a friendship with the great kingdom of Gondor.
