Dalal Mughrabi

Dalal Mughrabi (1959-11 March 1978) was a Palestine Liberation Organization terrorist and one of the perpetrators of the Coastal Road massacre of 1978 in northern Israel.

Biography[]

Dalal Mughrabi was born in 1959 in the Sabra refugee camp in Beirut, Lebanon to a family originally from Jaffa, Palestine. Mughrabi was originally a nurse, but when the Lebanese Civil War broke out, she joined the Palestine Liberation Organization to fight against the Syrian Arab Army when they intervened in Lebanon, and on 11 March 1978 Mughrabi decided to take part in an operation against Israeli civilians. Alongside 10 other Palestinian and Lebanese militants, Mughrabi killed 38 civilians and wounded 72 in the "Coastal Road massacre" in northern Israel. She blew up the bus with a grenade in a suicide attack when the bus was stopped by Israel Defense Forces soldiers, and she was among the 9 terrorists killed in the shootout. She is hailed as a Palestinian hero and called a terrorist in Israel.
