The Dakota are a Native American tribe that comprise two of the three Sioux subcultures, the Santee (eastern) and Yankton (western) Sioux. The Dakota inhabited the Great Plains during the 19th century, but they were forced onto reservations in North Dakota, South Dakota, and Oklahoma. The Dakota numbered 20,460 people in 2010, with most being Christian.
