Cynewulf (born 849) was a Mercian musician who lived in London, East Engle during the late 9th century AD. He was known for his lechery and many affairs with women around the city, although he was beloved for his musical tours with "The Gleemen". In 874, he was detained at Cripplegate for sleeping with the guard captain's wife, but he was freed by Eivor during a prison uprising which became known as the "Battle of Cripplegate". Eivor then chided Cynewulf for being a fiend and a poor friend, and he advised him to apologize to his friends.
