Cundinamarca is one of the departments of Colombia, with Bogota serving as its capital. Its name comes from Kunturmarqa, a Quechua phrase meaning "condor's nest." Most of Cundinamarca sits on the Eastern Cordillera south of the Boyaca Department, reaching down into the Orinoco River basin to the east, the Magdalena River to the west, and the Tolima Department to the south. The deaprtment was created on 5 August 1886, and it had a population of 11,545,300 people in 2023.
