Cristobal de Ribera

Cristobal de Ribera (1559-) was a Spanish Navy captain during the Dutch Revolt. On 11 June 1600, as captain of the 6-gun trade galleon Santa Maria, he left Santo Domingo and set a course for Cumana in South America, but he was intercepted by the Dutch privateer Jan Alen as he left harbor. His ship was pounded into submission, and he was forced to surrender with the ship's 789 gold pieces.
