Couy Griffin

Couy Griffin (1973-) was the Republican County Commissioner of Otero County, New Mexico from 2019 to 2022 and a participant in the 2021 United States coup d'etat attempt. He took part in a horseback ride from San Francisco to Jerusalem for the "Long Riders", a Christian venture meant to show support for Israel, and he also co-founded "Cowboys for Trump" to support the far-right president. On 6 January 2021, he took part in the storming of the Capitol in Washington DC, and he was arrested on 17 January 2021 and charged for planning to drive to Washington with a rifle and a revolver. On 6 September 2022, he was disqualified from public office for life under the Fourteenth Amendment in the first occasion in which the Fourteenth Amendment had been used to ban a person from public office since its application towards Victor L. Berger in 1919.
