The County of Tripoli was one of the four Crusader States set up in the aftermath of the First Crusade by French crusading nobles from Western Europe. From 1102 to 1289, the Counts of Tripoli ruled Lebanon from the city of Tripoli. Tripoli was a vassal of the Kingdom of Jerusalem, sending Tripolian Squires to fight the Saracens during the Defense of the Crusader States. The county held out until Sayf ad-Din Qalawun conquered the city in 1289.
