The County of Anjou (853-1360) was a county located near the French city of Angers. The first Count of Anjou was Robert the Strong, given the title by King Charles the Bald of France in 853. During their history, they controlled the County of Maine, and fought the Duchy of Normandy for control of the region. In 1216, with Henry III of England acceding the throne of England as an Angevin, Anjou remained under English control until France conquered the region in 1360 during the Hundred Years War.
