County Donegal

County Donegal is a county of Ireland, located in the far northwest of the country on the border with Northern Ireland. The region is also known as Tyrconnell (Tir Chonaill), its name in the Middle Ages, and its capital is located at the county town of Lifford; Donegal, its namesake, is not the county town. In an 1865 census, the county had a population of 68,630, with 82% being Irish and 17% being British. In 2011, the county had a population of 161,137 people, almost all of whom were Catholic Irish.
