Countess Mariane of Nubia

Countess Mariane of Nubia (born 22 November 772) was the Countess of Nubia from 13 December 776, succeeding Count Maththias of Nubia.

Biography[]

Mariane was born on 22 November 772, the daughter of Count Maththias of Nubia. She was from the House of Qamhat, a dynasty of Miaphysite Christian Nubians. Mariane inherited the County of Nubia from her father on his death on 13 December 776, and she was under a regency until she came of age. In March 789, she was forced to surrender to King Muhammad I of Berbera when the Kingdom of Berbera invaded Nubia, and she became a vassal of Muhammad.
