Biography[]
Amalia was born in 1312 to a lowborn family of Catholic Italians, and she was a courtier in Rome under Pope Benedict XII. In 1338, Benedict had her marry Count Foulques of Venaissin at a time when he was only the Baron of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, and she would later become countess of the Comtat Venaissin when Foulques was granted the fief.
