
Count Varaz-Tiroc of Tao (600-673) was the count of Tao in present-day Armenia under the Sassanid Empire and the caliphates.
Biography[]
Varaz-Tiroc was born in 600, the son of Smbat Bagrationi. He was a nobleman of the House of Bagrationi, and he was of Armenian Christian descent. Varaz-Tiroc reigned as a minor noble under the Sassanid Empire, and then later under the Rashidun Caliphate and Umayyad Caliphate after the Muslim conquest of Armenia (now called "Arminiya" in 654). He died in 673, and his son would become Duke Ashot I of Armenia.
