Count Tancred of Lincoln

Count Tancred of Lincoln (born 1109) was a vassal of the Kingdom of England.

Biography[]

Tancred was born in 1109 to the House of Balliol, a dynasty of Catholic Normans. In 1135, King Stephen of England granted him the County of Lincoln on the shore of eastern Central England, although Tancred was hostile to him. Tancred despised the new House of Blois and was loyal to the House of Normandy that ruled from 1066 to 1135, stepping forwards to back William de Normandie's claim to the throne. However, he later gained a positive opinion of Stephen when he became his spymaster.
