The mother of Billy Ray and Freddie Lee Cobb, she was a registered Republican, and her son Billy Ray was killed by the vigilante Carl Lee Hailey on the courthouse steps as he was about to be tried for the rape and beating of Carl Lee's ten-year-old daughter Tonya Hailey.
