Constantine I of Armenia

Constantine I of Armenia (1039-1103) was Prince of Armenian Cilicia from 1095 to 1103, succeeding Ruben I and preceding Thoros I.

Biography[]

Constantine was born in 1039, the son of Prince Ruben I of Armenia, who declared Little Armenia's independence from the Byzantine Empire in 1080. By 1090, he had become his aging father's regent, conquering the castle of Vahka (Feke) and extending his power eastward towards the Anti-Taurus Mountains while Prince from 1095 to 1103. He aided the Crusaders in their Siege of Antioch during the First Crusade, and he died when his table at Vahka was struck by lightning in 1103.
