
Constantin Sanatescu (14 January 1885 – 8 November 1947) was Prime Minister of Romania from 23 August to 5 December 1944, succeeding Ion Antonescu and preceding Nicolae Radescu.
Biography[]
Constantin Sanatescu was born on 14 January 1885 in Craiova, Romania. He was the son of General Gheorghe Sanatescu, and he served in the Second Balkan War and World War I before serving as a military attaché to the United Kingdom and France in the Interwar Years. Sanatescu commanded the Romanian IV Corps from 1941 to 1943 and from 1943 to 1944 he led the Romanian 4th Army during World War II, fighting alongside the Axis Powers. He was made Prime Minister after Ion Antonescu's pro-Nazi Germany dictatorship was overthrown, and he formed a new government under King Michael I of Romania. However, he was suspicious about Joseph Stalin and resigned on 5 December 1944. He died on 8 November 1947 of cancer at the age of 62.
