The Conservative Faction of Korea was a reactionary conservative faction of Joseon Korean politics which existed from 1836 to 1910. The Conservatives were steadfastly opposed to modernization and were staunch supporters of isolationism and Korea's status as a protectorate of Qing China. This set the Conservatives apart from the Royalist Faction, which was in favor of increased Korean autonomy. During the late 19th century, regent Yi Ha-ung and his conservative faction engaged in violence against the pro-Japanese faction of Krorean politics, including a failed coup in 1882. In 1884, the Conservatives were briefly overthrown in the Gapsin Coup before calling on their Chinese allies to restore order and bring down the short-lived progressive government. Along with the other factions at the Joseon court, the Conservative Faction was dissolved on Korea's annexation by Japan in 1910.
