The Congress of Verona was a meeting of Europe's great powers that was held on 20 October 1822 in Verona, Italy. The Russian Empire, Austrian Empire, Prussia, United Kingdom, and France met at Verona to discuss the questions of Italy, Spain, and Greece. While Italy and Greece remained issues after the congress, the congress authorized France to intervene in Spain in the "Hundred Thousand Sons of Saint Louis" invasion of 1823, restoring Fernando VII of Spain to his absolute power. The British, led by George Canning, opposed this policy of interventionism and withdrew from the Quintuple Alliance.
