The Confederate Congress was the bicameral legislature of the Confederate States of America that existed from 1861 to 1865. It first met as a provisional congress in Montgomery, Alabama, and it was later moved to Richmond, Virginia, having the goal of creating a southern government during the American Civil War. Originally dominated by Democratic Party members, it was later dominated by former US Whig Party members after the 1863 elections in unoccupied territories.
