Comrade Artemio

Florindo Flores (8 September 1961-), also known as Comrade Artemio, was the leader of the Shining Path from 1999 to 2012, succeeding Oscar Ramirez and preceding Comrade Jose.

Biography[]

Florindo Flores was born on 8 September 1961 in Camana, Peru, and he served in the Peruvian 221st Tank Battalion in the Peruvian Army from 1979 to 1980. However, he later joined the Shining Path communist rebels and became the leader of the group in the Huallaga Valley. In 1999 he took command from Oscar Ramirez, and he became known for wearing ski masks with an extra piece of cloth being used to cover his eyes and disguise him. Artemio was captured on 12 February 2012 by the Peruvian Army and police after a firefight, and two bullets were removed from his stomach. In 2013 he was sentenced to life in prison.
