The Communist Party of Byelorussia was a communist political party in Belarus that was the ruling party of the Byelorussian SSR from 1919 to 1991. The party was created after the Russian Revolution of 1917, and it was a part of the Bolshevik Party. In January 1919, the party was instrumental in creating the Byelorussian SSR. The party remained in power until August 1991, when Alexander Lukashenko - the head of state of Belarus - banned the party during the Dissolution of the Soviet Union. The Belarusian Party of Communists was founded to replace the original Communist Party.
