The Colorado Party is a liberal political party in Uruguay that was founded on 17 September 1836 by Fructuoso Rivera. The party became the most elected party in Uruguayan history, having almost uninterrupted dominance during the 20th century; from 1865 to 1959, the Colorado Party dominated national politics. The party was rivals with the National Party of Uruguay, and it sought to unite moderate, liberal, and social democratic groups in the country.
