The Colombo crime family is the youngest of the New York City American Mafia's "Five Families", being founded in 1928 by Joe Profaci. The family was known for undergoing three civil wars (1961-1962, 1971-1975, and 1991-1993), with Carmine Persico taking power after fighting in all three wars. The Colombo family was decimated by war and by numerous convictions and betrayals, and the family became the weakest of the Five Families.
