Colin Burgon

Colin Burgon (born 22 April 1948) was the Labour MP for Elmet from 2 May 1997 to 12 April 2010, succeeding Spencer Batiste.

Biography[]

Colin Burgon was born in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England in 1948, and he worked as a history teacher at Foxwood High School, and he became involved with the National Union of Teachers. He was elected to the House of Commons in 1997 as the Labour MP for Elmet, and he was a supporter of Hugo Chavez's socialist government in Venezuela and a sharp critic of neoliberalism. He stood down in 2010, and his constituency was abolished.
