Coleman Jones II (1799-1853) was an American planter from South Carolina.
Biography[]
Coleman Jones II was born in Pageland, South Carolina in 1799, the son of Eleazar Jones. He inherited his family's "Coolwind" plantation at Taxahaw in 1824, and he was known for his staunchly pro-slavery and racist views. Jones affiliated himself with the Federalist Party due to his firm belief in hierarchy, and he went on to join the Whigs due to his support for internal improvements. He lost much of his wealth in the Panic of 1837, forcing him to sell Coolwind. He died in poverty in 1853.
