Cold Mountain is a mountain in Haywood County, North Carolina, located among the Blue Ridge Mountains of Appalachia. Located 35 miles south of Asheville, Cold Mountain was once inhabited by the Cherokee Indians from 1000 until the arrival of European settlers in the 1780s. The European-American community of Bethel evolved into the town of Buford in 1889 and into Canton in 1891.
