Coe Isaac Crawford (14 January 1858-25 April 1944) was the Republican Governor of South Dakota from 8 January 1907 to 5 January 1909 (succeeding Samuel H. Elrod and preceding Robert S. Vessey) and a US Senator from 4 March 1909 to 3 March 1915 (succeeding Alfred B. Kittredge and preceding Edwin S. Johnson).
Biography[]
Coe Isaac Crawford was born in Volney, Iowa in 1858, and he practiced law in Independence, Iowa before moving to Pierre, Dakota Territory in 1883. He served as Hughes County prosecuting attorney from 1887 to 1888, on the Territorial Council in 1889, in the State Senate from 1889 to 1893, as Attorney General from 1893 to 1897, as his state's progressive Republican Governor from 1907 to 1909, and in the US Senate from 1909 to 1915. He then returned to Huron, where he practiced law until his retirement in 1934, upon which he moved to Yankton, where he died in 1944.
