Biography[]

Clovis Galletta was born in the United States on April 30th 1919 to an Italian family. She began working as a sales clerk of Nunn Bush Shoes in the mid 1940s. In January 1947, while on her lunch break, Galletta visited a jewelry store owned by Edgar Kalou in order to purchase a watch and a pair of pearl earrings. Her boss Everett Gage found her in the store with the layaway voucher for the pearl earrings and demanded that she went back to work, taking the voucher from her. Shortly afterwards, while Galletta and Gage were returning to the shoe store, Gage was shot several times by Kalou in the back, killing him.

As a witness to murder, Galletta was interrogated by LAPD officer Cole Phelps. She revealed the name of the shooter and the motive being tied to Gage's hatred for Jewish people.
