The Clemente crime family was an Italian-American Mafia crime family in New York City from 1929 to 1951. Founded by Don Alberto Clemente, and despite the family's power and influence, it was seen as second rate amongst other Mafia families in the city, due in part to Clemente's opportunistic and backstabbing nature. Clemente ran most of the family's operations from Freddy's Bar in Little Italy, Manhattan, though he also owned a slaughterhouse where he had many rivals tortured and killed. In 1951, after discovering the Moretti family led by Carlo Falcone was dealing in narcotics, Clemente attempted to vye into the drug market, but his attempts were thwarted by Falcone's men Vito Scaletta and Joe Barbaro, who ambushed Clemente at his hotel suite with a makeshift bomb, killing his remaining men, before shooting him to death after a high-speed car chase, bringing the family to an end.
