Clemens Point

Clemens Point is a peninsula located on the east coast of the Flat Iron Lake near the North Toledo Bend State Park and west of Zwolle in Sabine Parish. Clemens Point was named for the German Clemens family, whose patriarch Andreas Clemens - a gold miner - had been kidnapped at Dewberry Creek in 1899 and held hostage at the point by local outlaws until Dutch van der Linde's gang members Arthur Morgan and Charles Smith were recruited by his family to rescue him. They killed the outlaws there and chose Clemens Point as the site of the gang's new camp, but they were forced to relocate to the Shady Belle plantation after the Pinkertons tracked them down to Clemens Point.
