Cleander was a Roman slave trader and auctioneer during the 1st century AD. In 32 AD, after catching the runaway slave Demetrius of Corinth, he decided that the highly-educated Demetrius should be sold as a gladiator instead of as a household steward as his owner Oz ben Yochai desired.
