Clayton Theveneaux

Clayton Theveneaux (1780-1835) was an American planter and Democratic politician from Georgia.

Biography[]

Clayton Theveneaux was born in Augusta, Georgia in 1780, the great-grandson of French immigrants to the Thirteen Colonies. Theveneaux moved west to Thomaston and founded the "Bourbonnais" plantation, and he affiliated himself with the Democratic-Republican Party and later the Democrats due to his support for the expulsion of the Cherokee Indians from the state. He served in the State House from 1824 to 1825 and died in 1835.
