Claude Juste Alexandre Legrand

Claude Juste Alexandre Legrand (23 February 1762-8 January 1815) was a General de Division of the French Army during the French Revolutionary Wars and the Napoleonic Wars.

Biography[]

Claude Juste Alexandre Legrand was born in Le Plessier-sur-Saint-Just, France on 23 February 1762, and he enlisted in the French Royal Army in 1777. During the French Revolutionary Wars, he rapidly rose to the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel, and he became a Brigadier-General in 1793 before fighting at the Battle of Fleurus. Later, he served in the Army of the Danube, and he fought at the Battle of Stockach and the Battle of Hohenlinden. Under Napoleon I, he commanded a division in Marshal Nicolas Soult's IV Corps, and he fought at the Battle of Austerlitz, the Battle of Jena-Auerstedt, the Battle of Jena, the Battle of Aspern-Essling, the Battle of Wagram, and the Battle of Berezina. He was badly wounded during the crossing of the Berezina River, and he died from his wounds on 8 January 1815 in Paris.
