
Clarence Watson Meadows (11 February 1904-12 September 1961) was the Democratic Governor of West Virginia from 15 January 1945 to 17 January 1949, succeeding Matthew M. Neely and preceding Okey Patteson.
Biography[]
Clarence Watson Meadows was born in Beckley, West Virginia in 1904, and he became a member of his hometown's theatre troupe before receiving a law degree in 1927 and being elected to the House of Delegates in 1930. He served as state Attorney General from 1937 to 1942 and as Governor from 1945 to 1949, and he supported labor rights and improvements in education and transportation. He retired to Florida in 1957 and died in 1961.
