Clara Garcia (died 2021) was a Yaran journalist and revolutionary who led the Movimiento Libertad during the Yaran Revolution of 2021.
Biography[]
Clara Garcia was born to a wealthy Yaran family of Spanish descent. She studied at Espinosa University before becoming a journalist at the Ministry of Culture. She grew disillusioned with her privileged upbringing and exposed upper-class corruption through her work, causing her parents to disown her. Garcia proceeded to found a citizen blog and, after Santos Espinosa's death, started organizing and participating in protests. She ran for President in 2019 as the Movimiento Libertad candidate, but she lost with 48% of the vote to the right-wing populist Anton Castillo's 52% after Castillo had her supporters murdered and the election rigged. The FND military refused to safeguard new elections, and Castillo responded by turning to guerrilla warfare. Her 60-man unit was slaughtered down to 6 during a failed attack on the GDP Oil Platform, forcing her to take shelter on Isla Santuario, blockaded by the navy in Quito Bay. In 2021, Dani Rojas joined Libertad and helped Garcia liberate Santuario, eventually becoming her emissary to Yara's other guerrilla movements. Garcia was shot in the head by Anton Castillo during the last stages of the conflict, leaving Rojas as Libertad's new leader.
