Clapton is a district of North East London, England, located in the London Borough of Hackney, 4.7 miles northeast of Charing Cross. It was known to the Anglo-Saxons as Clopdun, meaning "farm on the hill", and it borders the River Lea to the east. Clapton was a rural hamlet for much of its history, but it soon became home to its own railway station.
