The Clan Stewart (or Stuart) is a clan from Scotland's Scottish Lowlands. The clan was descended from Normans from Brittany, and they acquired lands under William the Conqueror. Robert II of Scotland (r. 1371-1390) began Stewart/Stuart rule over Scotland, ruling until 1714, when Queen Anne I of Great Britain died, leaving the House of Hannover as the new kings of England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland.
