Clan Scott

Clan Scott is a Scottish clan from the Scottish Borders region of southern Scotland. The earliest mention of a person with the surname of "Scott" dated back to 1120, and the Scotts were staunch supporters of Robert the Bruce during the Anglo-Scots Wars. By the end of the fifteenth century, the Scotts were the most powerful of the Borders clans, and the clan became rivals with the neighboring Clan Kerr and Clan Eliott during the 1500s. During the Scottish Civil War, the Scotts supported the Covenanters and opposed Charles I of England's religious policies; however, during the Jacobite rising of 1745, the Scotts supported the Hanoverian government against the House of Stuart.
