Claire McCaskill

Claire McCaskill (born 24 July 1953) was a member of the US Senate from Missouri (D) from 3 January 2007 to 3 January 2019, succeeding Jim Talent and preceding Josh Hawley.

Biography[]

Claire Conner McCaskill was born in Rolla, Missouri in 1953, and she graduated from the University of Missouri. She worked as an attorney before serving as Jackson County Prosecutor from 1993 to 1998 and as State Auditor from 1999 to 2007; that same year, she was elected to the US Senate as a Democratic Party member. McCaskill was a moderate; she supported liberal views such as the implementation of Obamacare and gun control, but she opposed Medicare for all. In 2018, she was defeated for re-election by Republican Josh Hawley.
