Citizens United is a conservative political advocacy group in the United States that was founded in 1988. It promoted free enterprise, social conservatism, and New Right candidates, and its stated mission was to restore the US government to the citizens' control and to reassert the traditional American values of limited government, freedom of enterprise, strong families, and national sovereignty and security. In 2010, Citizens United won a US Supreme Court case against the Federal Elections Commission, allowing for corporations and unions to make expenditures in connection with federal elections.
