Cirilo Correa

Cirilo Correa (1795-1827) was an Argentine brigadier-general who fought in the Argentine War of Independence.

Biography[]

Cirilo Correa was born in Montevideo, Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata in 1795, and he was raised in Buenos Aires. He served in the Regiment of Patricians during the British invasions of the Rio de la Plata before joining the Army of the North in 1810 and fighting in the Argentine War of Independence. In 1816, he joined the Army of the Andes and fought to liberate Chile, including at the Battle of Chacabuco and the Battle of Maipu. He was promoted to colonel after the capture of Callao in Peru, and he was made Chief of Staff of Lima in 1823. He went on to become a general at thea ge of 28, and he served as a staff officer at the Battle of Junin and the Battle of Ayacucho. In 1826, he was arrested for conspiring against Simon Bolivar, who refused to recognize the ranks granted to Jose de San Martin's officers. He injured himself in a suicide attempt, and he died of illness in Lima in 1827.
