Cipriano de Palafox y Portocarrero (15 September 1784-15 March 1839) was a Spanish nobleman, politician, and soldier. He was the father of Eugenie de Montijo, Empress of France with Napoleon III.
Biography[]
Cipriano de Palafox y Portocarrero was born in 1784, and he served in the army of Bonapartist Spain during the Peninsular War, supporting the French-appointed ruler Joseph Bonaparte. He lost an eye in battle, and he was honored in Paris by Emperor Napoleon I himself. From 1837 to 1838, he served as Senator for Badajoz, and he died in 1839. His daughter Eugenie de Montijo would go on to marry the future Emperor Napoleon III.
