The Chuvash are a Turkic ethnic group native to the Volga-Ural region of Russia. They mostly live in Chuvashia. Their language is the earliest diverging Turkic language and the only surviving Oghur Turkic language. They are probably descended from Volga Bulgars who may have mixed with Finno-Ugric tribes.
