The Church of Saint Porphyrius airstrike occurred on 19 October 2023 when the Israeli Air Force bombed the Greek Orthodox Church of Saint Porphyrius in Gaza, killing 16 Palestinian civilians.
The Church of Saint Porphyrius, home to the tomb of the 5th-century AD Bishop of Gaza Porphyrius, was used to shelter 500 Christian and Muslim Palestinian refugees amid the Israeli bombing of the northern Gaza Strip. The IAF targeted a nearby Hamas command and control center used by the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades to attack Israel, but their fighter jets instead struck the church, killing 16 Palestinian civilians, among them several relatives of former US congressman Justin Amash.
