The Church of Ireland is an autonomous province of the Anglican Christian church, based in Ireland. The church identifies as both Catholic and Protestant, although it rejects the supremacy of the Pope and supports ideas from the Reformation. The church was founded in 1536 as a state church and disestablished in 1871, and it became the second-largest church in Ireland; in 2016, it had 410,000 adherents.
