Charles Ernest "Chuck" Grassley (born 17 September 1933) was a US Senator from Iowa (R) from 3 January 1981, succeeding John Culver. He previously served as a member of the US House of Representatives from Iowa's 3rd district from 3 January 1975 to 3 January 1981, succeeding H.R. Gross and preceding Cooper Evans.

Charles Ernest Grassley was born in New Hartford, Iowa on 17 September 1933, and he worked as an assembly line worker and sheet metal shearer before becoming a teacher during the 1960s. In 1959, he was elected to the Iowa House of Representatives as a Republican Party member, and he served in the US House of Representatives from 1975 to 1981. In 1981, he was elected to the US Senate, serving on the Senate Finance Committee, the Senate Aging Committee, the Senate Judiciary Committee, and the Senate Narcotics Caucus. Grassley was anti-abortion, anti-EPA, pro-Better Care Reconciliation Act of 2017, supported flag protection laws, opposed the intelligence community's statement that Russia had interfered in the 2016 presidential election, and sought to improve whistleblower protections.
